Godzilla has featured alongside many supporting characters. Later films address themes including Japan's forgetfulness over its imperial past, natural disasters, and the human condition.

As the film series expanded, some stories took on less serious undertones, portraying Godzilla as an antihero, or a lesser threat who defends humanity. Others have suggested that Godzilla is a metaphor for the United States, a giant beast woken from its slumber which then takes terrible vengeance on Japan. With the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Lucky Dragon 5 incident still fresh in the Japanese consciousness, Godzilla was conceived as a metaphor for nuclear weapons. Pokémon TCG cards that have featured illustrations and autographs from artists have been auctioned-off for significant sums of money in the past. The last Pokémon card included in the set depicts a doodle of the strange transforming Pokémon Ditto, alongside the autograph of another co-creator of Pokémon, Takumi Akabane. Meanwhile, Mitsuhiro Arita – the illustrator behind the highly sought-after Charizard card for the original Pokémon TCG Base Set – chose to draw a Voltorb, with illustrator Midori Harada featuring a Golbat on their card. One card depicts a doodle of the iconic electric mouse Pokémon Pikachu by Pokémon co-creator Ken Sugimori, with another co-creator, Kouchi Ooyama, also having drawn a picture of Pikachu on their card.
